Charles Wharton Edwards presents to the court that in 1828 he purchased from Margaret Cooper, the widow of Martin Thomas and now the wife of Benjamin Fox, a thirty-year-old female mulatto slave named Mary, also known as Patience. He explains that the condition of sale bound him to emancipate Mary within one year of purchase; a condition with which he is now "desirous" to comply. He asks the court to order the publication of the notices required by law.
