Petition #20883002

Abstract

George Deslonde, a free man of color, represents that Pierre Lebreret, "with force and arms, made a violent assault upon the negro man Isaac, aged twenty five years." According to Deslonde, Isaac, who belonged to him and was valued at $650, died immediately from wounds inflicted "upon the head & skull." Deslonde states that he "has suffered damages to the amount of one thousand dollars by reason of the killing of his slave" and he is now deprived of his slave's services. He prays that Lebreret be made to compensate him for the loss. Deslonde further represents that, although Lebreret has property in West Baton Rouge Parish worth between $800 and $1,000, he is about to "remove and conceal the property unless he is prevented by an attachment." Deslonde prays for such an attachment and "that the said property so attached may be sold" and the profits given to him as compensation.
