Petition #20883139
- Orleans Parish, Louisiana. cicra August 1831. - September 27, 1831.
- Court: Police Jury
- Salutation: To the Honourable the President and members composing the Police Jury for the Parish of Orleans
Abstract
Manuel Tellado presents to the police jury that he has recently purchased a forty-one-year-old female slave, a creole named Maria del Rosario, under the express condition that he would "manumit" her as soon as possible; a condition without which the act of sale "would not have taken place." He declares that he has had Maria del Rosario "in his possession" for a long time, and he vouches for her good behavior and the important services she has rendered him. He explains that he wishes to emancipate her "in consequence" of those services, as well as of the condition of sale. He asks the police jury to "deliberate upon the propriety" of authorizing him to proceed further to the formalities prescribed by law, in order to obtain Maria's manumission.
Result: Granted.
