Emily Bradley Richardson represents that, upon marrying Charles Richardson in 1831, she possessed a slave named Alice. She also brought to the community of marriage other property valued at $346, which has been converted to cash. She claims that the “embarrassment & general disorder” of her husband’s affairs are now such that his estate may not be sufficient to meet her rights and claims for the recovery of her “paraphernal & dotal” property. She therefore asks for a separation in property from her husband and a judgment against her husband for the recovery of $346 and her slave. She also asks for a judgment granting her “sole, full & exclusive administration” of her property.
