Petition #20883317

Abstract

Marie Lise Lacour represents that, upon marrying Narcisse Quierry in 1832, she brought to the marriage community a tract of land located on the Red River, various promissory notes in the amount of $1,606.91, five bales of cotton, and two slaves. Marie Lise now claims that her husband’s “excesses, cruel treatment, and outrages” have rendered “cohabitation insupportable.” More specifically, Narcisse has beaten her so badly that she almost died, and he has turned her out of the common dwelling. In addition, he has used her promissory notes to buy land, and he has sold the cotton and “appropriated the money to his private use.” Marie Lise Lacour Quierry therefore prays for a separation of bed and board from her husband and asks for a judgment against her husband for the value of her “dotal” property.
