Petition #20883330

Abstract

Marie Rose Voltaire, a free woman of color, presents to the court that she has applied to and obtained the consent of the police jury to emancipate her thirty-nine-year-old mother named Frosine or Euphrosine and allow her to remain in the state of Louisiana. She declares that Frosine, who is erroneously refers to as her "father" in this particular sentence, has always been of "good morals and character," has never run away, and has not committed any crime. She asks the court to order that the "notices prescribed by law" be published and, if there is no opposition, to authorize her to pass the act of freedom.
