Abstract
Marie Françoise Dolliole, a free woman of color, presents to the court that she is the owner of a male slave named Jean Baptiste, who is her "natural," i.e., illegitimate, son. She further presents that she purchased Jean Baptiste from Pierre Deverges for the purpose of "granting him his freedom." She vouches that her son is "a man of good moral character temperate sober and industrious free from all the crimes and blemishes contemplated by Law in cases of intended emancipation" [Incomplete Petition].
