Marie Joseph Pierre, a free woman of color, presents to the court that she is the owner of her son, a thirty-four-year-old slave named Jean Pierre Dimanche, whom she wishes to emancipate "in consideration" of the "important services" he has always rendered unto her and "owing to" his good conduct. She declares that Jean Pierre Dimanche has never run away and has never been guilty of any crime. Moreover, he has always "behaved in the most respectful manner toward white persons." Marie Joseph Pierre asks the court to order posting of the notices "required in such cases."
