Raymond Blancand is the agent of Simon Verdier, the latter formerly of the city of New Orleans but now a resident of the city of Bordeaux in France. Blancand presents to the police jury that he has been given special power ["pouvoir special"] to emancipate Verdier's forty-five-year-old female slave named Marie. He vouches that Marie provided Verdier with important services during his stay in the city and that Verdier is alive today only because of the good care she gave him ["et s'il existe encore il le doit aux bons soins de cette négresse"]. Blancand therefore asks the police jury to authorize Marie's emancipation and to allow her to stay in the state of Louisiana [Original in French].
