Damarisse Devel, a free woman of color, presents to the court that she is the owner of her two children and three grandchildren, whom she purchased from another free woman of color named Genevieve Devel, on the specific condition that she would emancipate them. Her two children are thirty-five-year-old Mimi, a male, and thirty-year-old Hortense, a female. Her grandchildren are Hortense's children; they are: twelve-year-old Jean Baptiste, ten-year-old Constant, and seven-year-old Patrice. She declares that both Mimi and Hortense have always "led" an honest conduct, have never run away, or been guilty of any crime; on the contrary, they have rendered "faithful & important services" unto her and have always been "most respectful toward white persons." She further declares that her grandchildren have always followed and will "very likely" continue to follow the advice and example of their mother. Damarisse asks the court to order posting of the notices required by law in such cases.
