Abstract
Victoire Sindos, a free woman of color, presents to the police jury that she wishes to emancipate her thirty-year-old daughter Madeleine, whom she purchased in 1831 from Mr. Drouet. She declares that Madeleine has always behaved well and is capable of earning a living, as shown by the certificates of character from several citizens of the parish, including Jean Baptiste Drouet and his wife, Marie Celeste Sindos. Victoire Sindos asks the police jury to authorize her to free her daughter, without her daughter being compelled to leave the area ["le pays"] [Original in French].
