William Croton Duncan presents to the court that he wishes to emancipate his thirty-year-old female mulatto slave named Simonette, also known as Lorette. He further presents that Simonette, who is good at caring for children ["bonne gardienne d'enfans"] as well as a seamstress and a laundress ["lavandière & repasseuse"], has rendered him long, faithful and important services. Not only has she raised his illegitimate children ["enfans naturels"], but she took care of her former mistress, Caroline Laura, during the late woman's last illness. William Duncan therefore asks the police jury to authorize him to free Simonette without compelling her to leave the state and without compelling him to furnish a bond [Original in French].
