- Orleans Parish, Louisiana. cicra February 9, 1835. - June 6, 1835.
- Court: Parish
- Salutation: To the honorable Charles Maurian Judge of the parish Court in and for the city and parish of New Orleans
Abstract
Antoine Benjamin, a free man of color, presents to the court that he is the owner of a forty-two-year-old male mulatto slave named Honoré, whom he "is desirous" to emancipate "from the bonds of slavery" in consideration of his "faithful and important services" and "good conduct." Benjamin declares that Honoré has never run away, never committed any robbery, and never been guilty of any criminal misdemeanor; and he has always been "respectful towards white persons." Benjamin asks the court to order posting of the notices required in such cases according to law. A related document reveals that Honoré is Antoine Benjamin's brother.
