- Court: Police Jury
- Salutation: À Messieurs le Président & Membres de l'Honorable Jury de Police de la Nle orléans
Abstract
Pierre Charles, a free man of color, presents to the police jury that, through hard work and thrift, he has been able to realize his goal of purchasing his three children, twelve-year-old Abel, ten-year-old Jules, and five-year-old Zoë. He further presents that he now wishes to emancipate them in order to teach them a trade and instill in them the habit of work ["pour leur donner un état & les élever dans l'habitude du travail"]. He therefore asks the police jury to authorize him to emancipate his children without compelling them to leave the state [Original in French].
