Petition #20883608

Abstract

Abraham Jones represents that Elizabeth, Aaron, and Moses McWaters are “justly & really indebted” to him in the sum of $2,112. The debt was incurred for services rendered at the McWaters’ “particular instance & request” during the years 1835 and 1836. More specifically, Jones claims, he served as overseer on the McWaters’ plantation, hired out two of his slaves to them, traveled to New Orleans and Mississippi to sell and buy slaves on their account, loaned them money, and bought fodder for them. Jones claims that, in spite of his request for payment, the debt remains “due, owing & unpaid.” He therefore prays that the McWaters be “ordered, adjudged & decreed jointly” to pay the debt plus costs of suit.

Result: Dismissed at plaintiff's cost.
