William C. Hughes represents that Robert Wolker, of Adams County, Mississippi, owes him $650 for services rendered as overseer on two plantations, and the slaves thereon, located in Iberville Parish. Hughes claims that he has “faithfully performed” his duties and his term of service has now expired. But Wolker, who had “bound himself by a written article of agreement,” now refuses to pay. Hughes therefore prays that a “curator ad hoc” be appointed and cited to represent the absent Wolker. He seeks a decree directing Wolker to pay the debt and a writ of sequestration on Wolker’s cotton crop, on which he claims to have a privilege.
