Marcellite Orillion, formerly the widow of Gérome [Jerome] Blanchard, seeks a separation from “bed and board” from her new husband Emanuel Sellier. Marcellite represents that, although she has always behaved “faithfully & kindly” toward her husband and discharged “on her part all the obligations imposed upon her by the laws of God & of men,” her husband has ill-treated and abused her, engaged in acts of physical violence, and forced her to “quit the common dwelling.” Marcellite therefore asks to be separated in person from her husband. She also wants to ensure that the property she inherited from her first marriage to the late Blanchard, the possession and administration of which she has always retained in community with her children from that first marriage, be “allowed & set over to her by decree of the court.” She further asks for custody of her daughter by Sellier.
