- Orleans Parish, Louisiana. cicra May 1842. - September 23, 1842.
- Court: Police Jury
- Salutation: To the Honorable the President and Members of the Police Jury for the Parish of Orleans
Abstract
Gabriel Correjolles, testamentary executor for the estate of the late Marie Louise Thomassin, a free woman of color, presents to the police jury that, by her last will and testament, the late Marie Louise Thomassin gave freedom to her nineteen-year-old mulatto slave named Jean Baptiste, and "bequeathed to him" a sum of $200. Correjolles declares that Jean Baptiste, who was born in the state of Louisiana, has always "led an honest conduct," has never run away, has never committed robbery or any other crime, and has always behaved "with most respectful manner toward white persons." Correjolles asks the police jury to consent to Jean Baptiste's emancipation and to dispense him "with leaving the state."
Result: Granted.
