Petition #20884718

Abstract

Augustin Predanes Metoyer, a free man of color, seeks to recover a debt from a woman of color named Henriette Cloutier, widow of the late Pierre Metoyer and now the wife of Emile Dupard. Augustin Metoyer represents that, in August 1842 and prior to her marriage to Dupard, Henriette executed a note to his order for the sum of $246.08, payable on the 1st of April 1843. Henriette has so far reimbursed him for only $133.15 of the total debt. The balance remains unpaid, although payment has been amicably demanded. Augustin Metoyer therefore prays that Henriette, whose husband is currently absent from the parish and expected not to return for a long time, be authorized to defend herself alone. He seeks a judgment against her for the balance of the debt, plus 10% interest from the date of maturity.
