Petition #20884839

Abstract

Pierre Rillieux, a free man of color, presents to the court that Joseph Paquet, also a free man of color, is "truly in debt" to him in the sum of $150. The debt arose from a promissory note subscribed by Paquet in March 1846, payable in March 1847. Rillieux claims that, although he has amicably demanded payment from Paquet, the latter has so far refused and neglected to pay. Rillieux prays that Paquet be cited to appear and, "after due proceedings," condemned to pay the debt plus interest at 8% per annum from the due date [Original in English and French; French version incomplete].
