- Court: Police Jury
- Salutation: To the Honorable the President & members of the police Jury in & for the parish of St. John the Baptist
Abstract
Etienne Sentille presents to the police jury that he has recently purchased from Eulalie Roussel, widow of Zephyrin Barré, a thirty-three-year-old female mulatto slave named Constance. The agreement of sale stipulated that Sentille should emancipate Constance as soon as she or "any other person" had reimbursed him the "amount of the price" of sale. He explains that the condition was imposed by the widow Barré in consideration of the "good & faithful services" that she received from Constance. Sentille vouches that Constance has never run away and has not committed any crime of misdemeanor. He therefore asks the police jury to consent to Constance's emancipation and to allow her to remain in the state.
Result: Granted.
