Petition #20885247

Abstract

Auguste Donato, a free man of color, presents to the court that Joséphine Tesson, also a free person of color, "is justly indebted to him in the sum of Two Hundred and Fifty Six dollars and forty cents with interest at the rate of eight per cent per annum from the first day of January 1845 until paid." Donato further presents that Tesson has acknowledged the debt and secured it with a mortgage on a "certain lot of ground" she owns in "the town of Opelousas." Donato claims that the debt has "long since been due" but not been paid, although "amicably demanded." Donato prays that the court will issue an order of seizure and sale on the mortgaged land in order to satisfy his claim.
