Julien Bossié Junior is administrator of the succession of his late father, Julien Bossié Senior. He presents to the court that, during his lifetime, his late father purchased an Africa-born male slave named Jean from his own parents, the late Pierre Bossié, Senior, and Marguerite Borne. The condition of sale stipulated that Jean would be emancipated as a reward for "good, faithful, meritorious, important & long services," as soon as he had reimbursed the price of his purchase. Julien Bossié, Junior, further presents that, in order to fulfill the obligation thus undertaken, he has applied to and obtained the consent of the police jury to emancipate Jean. Further the police jury has dispensed him from giving the "bond required by law" and has authorized Jean to remain in the state. He therefore prays that the court will direct the sheriff to give the "public notices" of emancipation according to law.
