Zénon, a free man of color, seeks to recover a debt from Coesar Seldon, also a free man of color. Zénon represents that, in 1853, he sold a “bay horse” to Seldon for the sum of $60. Seldon agreed to pay cash for his purchase, but he has so far “neglected and refused” to do so. Zénon therefore prays for a judgment against Seldon in the sum of $60 with “legal interest from judicial demand.”
