Petition #20885505

Abstract

Vital Blanc, a free man of color, seeks to recover a debt of $200 from Antoine Chouteau St. André, also a free man of color. Blanc represents that St. André is the tutor of Irma Mattes, minor child of the late Sévérin and Marie Ramono Mattes. Blanc claims that, with St. André’s “consent and authorization,” Irma was placed under “his care and protection” and she lived in his household from the 7th of June 1853 until the 7th of July 1855. He estimates that the expense incurred in boarding, lodging and clothing Irma amounts to $8 per month over the course of two years and one month. He charges that, although he has “incurred considerable trouble and expense in the bringing up and support” of Irma, St. André has refused to compensate him. Vital Blanc therefore seeks an order condemning St. André to pay the $200.

Result: Dismissed on motion of plaintiff's counsel.
