Virginie Lemelle, a free woman of color and the wife of a free man of color named Philippe Esterling, presents to the court that she is one of the heirs and children of the late Alfred Lemelle, who died intestate. The other two heirs and children, issue of the marriage of Alfred Lemelle and Adelaïde Celeste Lessassier, now the wife of Don Louis Lemelle, are Marie Louise and Eleontine Lemelle. Virginie Lemelle Esterling further presents that she and her two sisters are each entitled to one sixth of their father's undivided property, which consists of a tract of land and five slaves, and her mother, Adelaïde Celeste Lessassier Lemelle, is entitled to one half. She therefore prays that her mother and new husband, Don Louis Lemelle, as well as her two sisters' tutor, Auguste Donato, be cited to appear in order to answer her request for a sale and distribution of the land and slaves.
