Petition #20885661

Abstract

Lodoiska Metoyer, a free woman of color and the administratrix of the succession of Joseph Metoyer, seeks to recover a debt of $605 plus 8% interest from a free man of color named Manuel B. Llorens. Lodoiska Metoyer represents that, on the 5th of May 1855, Llorens executed a one-year promissory note for his purchase of a fifty-five-year-old slave named Rollin that belonged to the estate. The note was secured by a mortgage on the slave. The note remains due, although amicable demand of payment has been made “in vain.” Lodoiska therefore seeks enforcement of the mortgage. She prays for an order of seizure and sale of the slave to satisfy her claim. A related petition reveals that Lodoiska was the widow of the late Joseph Metoyer Jr.
