Pricilla Dunbar, a free woman, prays for the emancipation of her forty-three-year-old slave named Annah or Ann. Dunbar represents that she has recently purchased Annah from Christian Lindauer. She vouches that Annah is not “subject” to any “mortgage or privilege whatever.” She further vouches that Annah is of “good character, of sober & industrious habits, of dutiful demeanor towards white persons,” and has never been convicted of any criminal offences. She explains that public notice of her intention to sue for Annah's emancipation has been given as required by law and that no opposition has been filed. She therefore prays for the permission to free Annah and she offers guarantees that Annah will “never become a public charge” if she is allowed to remain in the state.
