Abstract
Gustave Donato, a free person of color, presents to the court that a free woman of color named Amélie Rillieux, the widow of Jean Lessassier, has died intestate, leaving as her "legal heirs" her two daughters, Amelia Lessassier Donato and Eleonor Lessassier, and several grandchildren. Amelia is Gustave Donato's wife. Some of the grandchildren are the issue of Amélie's late daughter, Adelaïde, and Amélie's two husbands husband, Alfred Lemelle and Don Louis Lemelle. The other grandchildren are the issue of Amélie's other late daughter and her husband Ursin Lenormand [Norman]. Gustave Donato prays, at the heirs' request, to be appointed administrator of the estate.
