Petition #20886021

Abstract

Sarah Ann Payne seeks a separation of bed and board and in property from her husband, William B. Robinson. The couple married in Missouri and moved to Louisiana on or about 1850. Sarah Ann asserts that, since the marriage, she and her husband have acquired property consisting of slaves and personal property of about "the value of ten thousand dollars belonging to the community of acquits and gains between them." She further informs the court that, "for some time past, her husband has treated her with great cruelty, such as threatening her life, pushing and pulling her about with violence, striking her, pulling her nose, worrying her night and day, so as to render her life most miserable and unhappy." She further accuses her husband of intemperance and defamation of her character. In consequence of Robinson's behavior, Sarah Ann prays "that she be separated from bed and board from him and a desolution of the community be awarded and that her husband do pay the cost of this suit; and that, as a conservative measure, an inventory and appraisement be made of the community property and that a writ of injunction" be issued to protect her rights of property.

Result: Dismissed.
