Abstract

Paul Chenier, a free man of color, seeks to collect a debt from Lise Lafleur, a free woman of color. Lafleur issued a promissory note for $1,029.26 on 23 December 1859. The note is now past due and although "often amicably requested," Lafleur has yet to pay any part of the debt. Chenier prays that Lafleur be ordered to pay the debt plus 8% interest and costs of the suit.
