Petition #20980904

Abstract

William Winchester and William Owings, administrators for the estate of the late James Winchester, represent that they "find it very difficult to hire out the slaves belonging to the said estate." In addition, "the negros are themselves dissatisfied with the uncertainty of their homes and wish to be sold, representing that they can find Masters in the neighbourhood of their wives & children." Therefore, the petitioners seek the court's permission to sell the slaves.
