Abstract
John Lewis states that he is "a native of the Island of St. Domingo" and that he was born free. Lewis is being held in slavery by David Fulton. He asserts that "by the Laws of the State of Maryland [he] is entitled to his freedom." Lewis requests that Fulton show cause why he should not be discharged from slavery.
Result: Granted; appealed;
judgment affirmed.
