John Scrivener Camden and wife Ann Smith Camden ask the court to order Dr. Samuel Lukins to relinquish possession of the slave James and to give an account of his hires. The petitioners show that James was owned by Sarah Warfield who stipulated in her will that he should serve until age 31 and then be freed. The will further stipulated that James should become the possession of Robert John Smith and that, if he had not reached the age of 31 prior to Smith's death, he was to become the slave of Ann Smith. The petitioners seek possession of James and compensation for the time he has been in Lukins's possession.
