- Court: Orphans
- Salutation: To the worshipful the Justices of the orphans court of Anne Arundel County
Abstract
John Mercer used to be guardian of Henry and Nicholas Darnall, free persons of color and minor heirs of slave owner Bennett [Bennitt] Darnall. The court replaced him with Thomas Sellman in 1816. Mercer tells the court that on 26 April 1814 he received a bond for a debt due to the Darnall estate from John Waring and Clement Smith. The bond was out-of-date and Waring is dead so Mercer arranged new bonds with Waring's executor and Smith. Mercer asks the court to "confirm this act of his," to order Sellman to receive the bonds, and to credit his account for the amount of the original bond.
