Petition #20981823

Abstract

Osborn Belt Jr., administrator of his father's estate, reports that an estate slave named Sandy "has made two different attempts to run away." Sandy is presently confined in jail "from which your Petitioner deems it inexpedient to release him, because he is confident said negro will again abscond the very first opportunity that presents itself, and might then effect his escape to the great injury of the Estate." Belt asks the court to grant an order to sell and dispose of Sandy. He notes that his brother John also claims ownership of Sandy and "that a Replevin is depending in Prince Georges County Court."

Result: Granted.
