"Old Rachel a servant of the late Daniel Dulany" seeks the court's sanction for the appropriation of funds necessary for her support. Rachel relates that said Dulany died about fifteen years ago, "leaving her at the advanced age of Sixty years without any means of support." She asserts that she has "endeavoured by her industry to earn an honest livelihood," but now concludes that she "has become so old and feeble that she is unable any longer to labour and is entirely destitute and helpless and a burden to those around her." The representatives of the late Dulany have moved to England, but they are "possessed of valuable property in the State of Maryland," under the supervision of their agent, Jonas Clapham. Rachel asserts that Clapham is willing to appropriate "a reasonable portion of their funds" to help with her maintenance provided the court will approve such action.
