Petition #20982505

Abstract

Elizabeth Dorsey mortgaged seven slaves to Francis B. Sappington and Richard Dorsey. Dorsey and Sappington sued to foreclose the mortgage, and in September 1825 the chancery court ordered Elizabeth Dorsey to pay the debt or surrender the slaves to a trustee to be sold to pay her debt. Mrs. Dorsey, with the aid of her two sons, drove off the trustee's agent when he tried to claim the slaves in November. Sappington and Dorsey ask the court to seize the slaves, to hand them over to the trustee for the sale, and to issue an injunction against Elizabeth Dorsey to prevent her from interfering further with the proceedings.
