Warner W. Warfield entered into a contract with Warner Welch of Anne Arundel County to sell him two parcels of land containing roughly one hundred acres. Welch agreed to pay $300 per year starting in the year 1823, but Warfield complains that he has received only a small sum of money from Welch. Two years later, Welch mortgaged several slaves to Warfield to secure the remaining debt. The time has long elapsed to complete payment for the land and Warfield seeks to foreclose on the mortgage and to have the slaves sold to pay the overdue balance.
