Petition #20983423

Abstract

Mary Shephard, guardian of her sons, William and Joseph Shephard, asks the court to sanction the sale of a slave belonging to one of her sons. The petitioner declares that two slaves, Israel and Parraway, were distributed to her sons as part of their father's estate. Both slaves ran away, but Israel was apprehended in Philadelphia, for which the petitioner "had to pay the reward of $50 and the additional sum of $50 for other incidental expenses." After his capture, the petitioner sold Israel for $300, which has been credited to the heirs. The petitioner asks that the court compensate her accounts with a credit of $100 and certify the sale of Israel.
