Henry Fulford, executor of the estate of the late William Fulford, asks permission to sell Jake and Frank, two term slaves belonging to the estate. Fulford has been unable to accept an offering price of five hundred dollars for the slaves, because it is one hundred dollars less than the slaves' appraisal value. He has obtained the consent of a majority of the estate's legatees to accept the lower price. Fulford explains that the estate should accept the offer, especially considering the fact that Frank has rheumatism and a swollen wrist.
