The next of kin and distributees of Susan S. Gaither ask the court for permission to sell the slaves of her estate at a private sale. They explain that some of the slaves are married and they worry that a public sale of the slaves would "subject them to the hasard of being separated from their families and also of being sold out of the state, or to cruel masters."
