In an earlier petition, Robert Reeder charged that Mary Boarman had "kept secreted a negro woman called Emily." He claimed that this slave belonged to Raphael H. Boarman's estate, of which he is administrator. In her answer, Mary Boarman cited that the slave belonged to Elizabeth Edelin. Since Emily is now in Boarman's possession, Reeder "is apprehensive that said woman may be disposed of in such manner that she may be placed beyond the reach of your complainant." Reeder asks that the slave be delivered to him "unless the said Mary Boarman shall give bond with security to be approved by this court."
