Petition #20984822

Abstract

William Bryan, who became administrator de bonis non of Lewis N. Sewell following the death of William Sewell, asks that the mortgaged property, including slaves, of John and Adam Miller, be sold to satisfy debts. Bryan states that on 19 September 1843 John Miller mortgaged certain slaves and land to William Sewell, administrator of Lewis Sewell. The debt was not paid during the lifetime of either Sewell. Bryan further charges that the same slaves and land were involved in an earlier mortgage to Gottleb J. Grammer and that neither obligation has been discharged. [The names of the slaves appear in a deed that was not photocopied but appears on documentation for the petition.]
