Petition #20984831

Abstract

James Watkins is the owner of a term slave named Richard. Despite being warned of the consequences of his actions, Richard has run away on several occasions, declaring "that he will never again return to your petitioner." Watkins "has no hope" that the slave will "ever be of any service" to him as Richard has for a "long time been disobedient insubordinate and incourageble." In order to recoup his expenses, Watkins asks the court to extend the term of Richard's indenture and to grant him permission to sell the slave out of state if deemed necessary.
