Richard Crisp asks that the term of service of one of his slaves be extended and that he have the authority to sell the said slave out of state. Crisp claims that a slave named Tom is "turbulent and incourageable and vicious and worthless." He also contends that Tom has run away on several occasions causing him "considerable expenses" and that "the day before this boy ran away he made a violent attack upon" a female slave belonging to the petitioner. "Believing that nether he nor his family or property would be safe if he took his negro boy back," the petitioner asks the court to intercede.
