Petition #20984835

Abstract

Owen Disney, administrator of the estate of John Pumphrey, asks for guidance on how to proceed with the sale of slaves belonging to Pumphrey's estate. He reports that he had sold Nancy and two of her children "for a term of years" but after said sale he discovered that "the bill of sale of the said Nancy to the said intestate was imperfect," having never been recorded. The purchasers have returned the slaves and "have refused to pay for the same" unless the petitioner can provide "an unquestionable title." Disney petitioned "the Legislature at their last session" to have the original sale "duly recorded" but his request was denied. He "asks for directions from this worshipful court" on the course of action he should pursue.

Result: Granted.
