Elliott Richardson asks the court to extend the term of service of the term slave Daniel. Richardson states that he purchased Daniel from the estate of David Ridgely in 1840, and since then Daniel has run away and been put in jail "at the expence of your petitioner." The petitioner argues that "Daniel has always been Treated by him with great care yet such is the turbulence of his character" that he "has enjoyed but little peace with him since his purchase aforesaid." Richardson asks the court to extend the term of service of Daniel and to allow him to sell Daniel "in or out of the state."
