Ann Beall declares that her husband, Samuel Beall, has treated her cruelly for the past three years. Prior to that time, "he was everything that a devoted & hightoned husband could be, & the life of your petitioner was passed in peace & the full enjoyment of domestic happiness." About three years ago "intemperance seized upon him" and since then Samuel has repeatedly beaten her and threatened her life. She states that she "has ever sought to treat him with the same affection felt for him, when he became, among other things, her choice, & in the presence of God's Minister she sealed to him the gift of her heart & hand." Ann Beall asks the court to grant her a divorce and alimony as well as custody of her seven children.
