Stevins Gambrell reports that he owns a "servant Boy Brice a slave for a term of years" who was freed "under a Deed of manumission from Mrs Eleanor Woodward who manumitted his mother Hester and her issue as they respectively arrive at the age of thirty years." Gambrell explains that Brice is "in the habit of running away from your petitioner subjecting him to much Expense trouble and inconvenience." The petitioner asks the court to extend Brice's term of service "to indemnify him in his loss of time money &c."
